SFD to Conduct Live Burn Exercise for Firefighter Training

Last Updated 1/30/2026Posted in Fire News

The City of Statesville Fire Department is set to hold a live burn training exercise at 2028 Amity Hill Road on Friday, April 5, 2024. This exercise, located off of Shelton Avenue, will take place between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Residents in the vicinity will see fire department personnel in the area around the structure starting on April 1, 2024, for the remainder of the week.

The structure at 2028 Amity Hill Road has been generously donated by the property owners for the purpose of this training. This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts by SFD to enhance the skills and preparedness of its firefighters, ensuring safe and efficient service delivery for the community.

During the exercise, residents and visitors can expect heavy smoke in certain parts of the area. Additionally, there may be temporary traffic congestion and elevated noise levels due to fire equipment and apparatus on site. Bright lights from vehicles will also be present. While these inconveniences are unavoidable, every effort will be made to minimize disruption to the community. Onlookers are kindly requested to keep moving when passing by the location to reduce any unwarranted inconveniences.

To facilitate the training activity, a road closure will be implemented. Amity Hill Road will be closed from just past 2005 Amity Hill Road to the intersection of Amity Hill Road and Kimball Street from approximately 08:00 a.m. to approximately 5:00 p.m. Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes during this period. Please refer to the attached map for more details.

The Statesville Fire Department appreciates the understanding and cooperation of the community during this training exercise. For further inquiries or assistance, please contact Chief Kyle Bell with the Statesville Fire Department at 704-682-6503.
