The Insurance Services Office (ISO) evaluates how well a fire department is able to protect its community. Fire departments are graded on a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 representing the highest level of protection and 10 representing the lowest. This rating plays an important role in determining property insurance costs, as communities with stronger fire protection typically benefit from lower insurance premiums.
The Statesville Fire Department holds an ISO Class 1 rating, the highest classification awarded for fire protection and suppression services. Fewer than one percent of fire departments nationwide achieve this distinction, placing Statesville among the top communities in the country for fire protection.
This rating reflects the department’s strong commitment to emergency response readiness, firefighter training, equipment, water supply, and communications systems. Maintaining a Class 1 rating not only demonstrates operational excellence, but can also help reduce insurance costs for residents and businesses while ensuring a higher level of fire safety throughout the community.
The Statesville Fire Department serves approximately 31,693 residents across 31.07 square miles. The department is staffed by 100 full-time personnel operating out of five fire stations and six companies, providing professional and reliable fire protection and emergency services throughout the city.
