At the heart of the Statesville Fire Department’s mission to protect and educate our community is Heather Gessler, the Fire/Life Safety Educator. Heather’s work goes far beyond prevention; she is actively shaping a safer, more informed Statesville by developing and delivering life-saving education programs tailored to residents of all ages and backgrounds.

What Does a Fire/Life Safety Educator Do?

Heather is responsible for leading the Fire and Life Safety Education Program for the Statesville Fire Department. She designs engaging curriculums and teaching aids to educate the public on essential fire safety practices, from fire extinguisher use to evacuation procedures. Her work often takes her out into the community, where she coordinates safety programs for businesses, civic groups, schools, and neighborhood associations.

In addition to managing the department’s safety education initiatives, Heather organizes and participates in special events that promote fire prevention. Whether it’s hosting safety demonstrations or representing the Fire Marshal’s Office at local events, she plays a vital role in spreading awareness about fire safety.

A Modern Approach to Safety Education

Heather brings a modern, tailored approach to fire and life safety education. Her expertise in educational methods and her ability to develop age-appropriate materials make her programs impactful and engaging for diverse audiences. From school children learning about fire drills to businesses improving workplace safety, Heather ensures her teachings are accessible and practical.

Building a Safer Statesville

Heather’s contributions go beyond her daily responsibilities. By explaining fire safety policies, conducting inspections, and planning events, she strengthens the bond between the Fire Department and the community it serves. Her ability to connect with people and inspire safety-first behaviors has a direct impact on making Statesville a safer place to live and work.
