Statesville Fire Department Supports Smoke Alarm Saturday with Installations and Safety Checks

The Statesville Fire Department (SFD) took to the streets this past weekend to help keep our community safe by participating in Smoke Alarm Saturday, a statewide initiative focused on ensuring residents have working smoke alarms in their homes.

As part of this event, SFD crews visited neighborhoods throughout the city, offering free smoke alarm checks, battery replacements, and new smoke alarm installations for residents in need. During the day, firefighters installed 15 new smoke alarms and replaced batteries in an additional 15 existing alarms—making sure that dozens of homes are now better protected in the event of a fire.

"Working smoke alarms save lives. Far too often, we respond to fires where the alarms aren’t functioning, or batteries have been removed," said Statesville Fire Marshal Pete Morrison. "Smoke Alarm Saturday is an important way for us to connect with residents, help them make sure their alarms are ready to do their job, and offer peace of mind."

SFD reminds residents that smoke alarms should be installed in every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of your home. Alarms should be tested monthly, and batteries should be replaced at least once a year—unless the alarm is equipped with a long-life sealed battery.
