Statesville Fire Department Honors Members at Annual Awards Banquet
The Statesville Fire Department held its Annual Awards Banquet on March 6, 2026, at the Statesville Event Center. The evening brought together firefighters, command staff, and their families to celebrate the dedication, accomplishments, and service of department members over the past year.
The annual banquet is an opportunity to celebrate the dedication and accomplishments of the department’s firefighters. The evening included recognitions for outstanding service, career milestones, and professional achievements, along with the presentation of the department’s annual awards.
Firefighter of the Year – Senior Firefighter Amanda Trotta
Senior Firefighter Amanda Trotta was named the Statesville Fire Department’s Firefighter of the Year.
Trotta continues to stand out within the organization through her dedication and commitment to professional growth.
Over the past year, she advanced her training by earning certifications as a Fire Officer, Fire Instructor, and Aerial Operator. She also serves the department as a Relief Captain.
Officer of the Year – Captain Eddy Harpe
Captain Eddy Harpe was recognized as the department’s Officer of the Year for his leadership and dedication to the fire service.
Firefighters who have served under Captain Harpe consistently praise his leadership style and the respect he shows to his crew. Known for remaining calm and composed when others are facing chaos, Harpe has built a reputation as a firefighter who can be relied upon in the most demanding situations. His many years of experience are evident both on the fireground and in the classroom as he mentors and trains fellow firefighters.
Chief Officer of the Year – Fire Chief Glenn Kurfees
Fire Chief Glenn Kurfees was honored as Chief Officer of the Year. Members of the department described him as a consistent and approachable leader who remains professional while also being supportive of the firefighters he leads.
Those who nominated Chief Kurfees noted that he holds people accountable while also listening to concerns and treating members of the department fairly and consistently. He is known for standing behind the men and women of the department and working to move the organization forward.
Additional Recognitions
In addition to the annual awards, several members of the Statesville Fire Department were recognized for career milestones and achievements during the evening. Caleb Hayward was recognized during the ceremony as a new member of the department.
Several firefighters were also recognized for promotions within the organization. Promotions included Richard Gregory and Joseph Taylor to Lieutenant; Zachary Hinson and Justin Yox to Captain; Brandon Wiggins to Battalion Chief; and Aaron Kennedy to Deputy Chief.
Members were also recognized for completing important career development milestones, including Firefighter I, Senior Firefighter, Senior Lieutenant, Senior Captain, and Senior Battalion Chief designations. These achievements reflect the department’s ongoing commitment to training, professional growth, and maintaining a highly skilled workforce.
Firefighters were also honored for years of service milestones ranging from five to thirty- five years of service to the Statesville Fire Department. The evening also included recognition of Captain Eddy Harpe for his retirement and his many years of dedicated service to the department.

The annual awards banquet provides an opportunity for the department to celebrate its members and the strong culture of teamwork that defines the fire service. Each recognition highlights the dedication, professionalism, and commitment that the men and women of the Statesville Fire Department bring to their work every day while protecting the Statesville community.
